HMP Sudbury has been working closely with Mitie and our supply chain to help build a garden centre, café & training academy on the gorunds of HMP Sudbury.
This social enterprise, open in spring 2017, and the centre built helps to train people with convictions in several disciplines such as horticulture, landscaping, hospitality, barista, food hygiene and customer service skills. The social enterprise will also provide a service to the local community, where people can come and purchase goods on site.
The idea is to help improve the trainees' opportunities for gainful employment as they approach release from prison, which in turn can help reduce re-offending rates.
A special thanks to our Mitie colleagues from Derby, who worked alongside serving inmates to build the classroom and who provided a specialist contractor, Santia asbestos, at very short notice to remove suspect debris.
